Games For May - 40th Anniversary Tribute to Pink Floyd
Queen Elizabeth Hall, London, May 26th 2007
Special guest artists including Robyn Hitchcock, Graham Coxon (Blur) and Dan 'Woody' Woodgate (Madness) united to pay tribute to Pink Floyd on the 40th anniversary of their legendary 'Games For May' performance at the Queen Elizabeth Hall on London's South Bank.
A full psychedelic light show accompanied the early Floyd classics performed by the band. The psychedlic lighting crew was probably more legendary than the performers(!) comprising none other than: Peter Wynne-Willson (WWG & Pink Floyd's original LD), Neil Rice (Optikinetics), Geoff Blindt (Mystic Lights) and Sid Fossil (Fossil Optics). David Fowler (Optifanatics) captured the event on camera from the lighting area. The lighting gear occupied the entire width of front section of the rear stalls and included a 6k ETC projector with Peter's wonderful large format liquid and other effects plus a battery of Optikinetics Solar 575 projectors, some Aldis Tutor 1000's, an OPTI K4, OHPs with liquid bowl effects and a range of pars and movers on stage run from an Avo.
The simple set-up of band equipment on stage and the clever use of psychedelic projection effects with only very basic additional stage lighting really captured the effect of the original early Floyd permformances. As one guy on a Pink Floyd forum commented on these photos, "so thats what those old black and white videos would look like in color".
